Edition No. 21

Gerhard Richter: "Prism", 2002

Gerhard Richter has conceived the edition as a part of his commissioned work "Eight Gray". In this installation of eight mirrored panels perception and cognition, tableau and space are fractured and reflected as if the spectator moves through a prism of painting and its theory.

The Edition No. 21 acts here like a key to the exhibition and opens at the same time an other view on Gerhard Richter's work. Through a slight adjournment the prism turns from an assumed uncolored optical instrument to a projection bar for the complete spectrum of light; absence becomes visible as the source of abundance.
