Edition No. 46

Picturing America (the album), 2009

The Edition accompanying the exhibition Picturing America: Photorealism in the 1970s is an artist book and a sort of family photo-album at the same time.
Eleven artists of the show at the Deutsche Guggenheim, Berlin – Robert Bechtle, Tom Blackwell, Chuck Close, Robert Cottingham, Don Eddy, Richard Estes, Audrey Flack, Ralph Goings, Ron Kleemann, Richard Mclean, Jon Salt, and Ben Schonzeit – have contributed in part never published texts, materials, photographs, and collages that reflect their artistic experience and their very personal memories of the 1970s. The result is the document of a period in which Photorealistic artists developed totally new means of expression beyond Pop Art and Minimalism.

Visual and text contributions, letters and reprints. The portfolio contains photos by Don Eddy and John Salt, a slide by Robert Bechtle, photo collages by Audrey Flack and Ben Schonzeit, as well as the diavography of a proof sheet for Big Self-Portrait, 1967 by Chuck Close.
Limited, numbered and signed (by nine of the participating artists) edition of 50 copies, plus 35 A.P.
